Project overview
Quotient was developing MosaiQ, an all-in-one instrument for faster and more detailed blood typing, with plans to extend it to testing for certain blood-borne diseases. At the heart of the machine is the microarray, a small consumable onto which a blood sample and reactive chemicals are dispensed. This film follows one microarray on its journey through the instrument, with every stage shot in close-up.
Getting the camera inside the machine was the challenge. I shot with probe lenses to reach into spaces never designed for a camera, which meant a lot of light rigging to expose them properly. Where a process happened at a scale or speed the camera couldn’t capture, I built it in motion graphics instead. The film was made mainly for internal training and was shown to select investors, but because it contained a great deal of proprietary detail it was never intended for public release.
